As Breakfast at Tiffany’s appears to be the fan favorite from our movie poll a few days ago, we’ve decided to begin our Holiday Gift Guide for 2007 with Breakfast at Tiffany’s stuff! Keep checking back here every week day between now and December for a ton of holiday gift ideas!

Here I was inspired by Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Roman Holiday.

Be sure to check it out and dress up Audrey for yourself! (And be sure to follow their valuable hint: To make items appear closer to the doll, double-click or triple-click the item, depending on the browser you’re using. It makes things so much easier!)

The color pink — and I’m not talking about dainty, pale cupcake frosting pink – -has been deemed a statement shade for fall. Milly, Christian Lacroix and Oscar de la Renta are all showing flouncy mini frocks in look-at-me-now shades of fuchsia.

But can you pull it off if you’re not a 24-year-old party girl carrying a flute of Champers? Or Holly Golightly? Heck, yes. Fuchsia is actually an extremely flattering color and it warms pale skin tones and contrasts well with darker complexions. The key to making this vibrant color work for you is to pair a hot pink dress with decidedly adult shoes like sophisticated black pumps or strappy nude stilettos. A simple, black or metallic clutch works best too.

Want to dress up as Holly Golightly this Halloween? Now it’s really easy thanks to the Look Like Audrey Hepburn Costume featuring a velveteen dress with attached belt and white gloves.

Already own a little black dress? Dress it up with some satin opera gloves, oversized sunglasses, a large floppy hat, or a strand of pearls.

Or add a bucket hat to a wool dress or fancy overcoat, grab some oversized sunglasses, and recreate that memorable shopping scene at Tiffany’s.

Perhaps the easiest Audrey Hepburn costume is to wear a Holly Golightly sleep mask and a white button-down shirt!

Read a critical analysis of Truman Capote’s novel Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Matthew Cash, presumably written while he was a student at the University of Michigan.

Throughout his writing career critics have been both generous and praising to Capote but also disfavoring, harsh, and sometimes utterly stingy. Breakfast at Tiffany’s was no exception. Where one critic called it “an unbelievable melodrama” (Goyen 5) another said “although it is not free of Capote’s faults, seems to me the best thing he has done yet” (Hyman 148). But these same critics cannot deny the book of it’s integrity for in his same review Stanley Hyman says: “Holly is done in wonderful brush strokes…” For the most part, the book was given honorable and praising reviews: “A rare individual voice, cool even when exasperated, never more sure of itself then when amazed, sounds through every sentence,” said Paul Darcy Boles of the Saturday Review (20). Whatever the criticism, be it good or bad, Capote shows an undeniable flair for character, humor, and virtue. Some call him unrealistic, fanciful, and indifferent to moral issues (Garson 6-7) but no matter what they say, it is undeniable that Capote remains, and will remain an influential writer long after his death.
